El Morro Havanese

times seen!!

Our goal is always to produce the best Havanese possible.   We are not commercial breeders and typically have 4 to 5 litters a year. Our dogs are all AKC registered and many are cross-registered with the FCI.

We are proud members of the Tropical Havanese Club, the Independent Havanese Club, and the Blue Ridge Havanese Club. We are also currently are putting togather a formation club for our area in Tampa Bay, the Big Guava Havanese Club.

Kathy is currently serving as Vice Presidant of the Tropical Havanese Club and Doug is it's webmaster.

Kathy spent several years on the Havanese Club of America Cuban Relief Committee and traveled to Cuba last year for the Havanese Club of America to deliver assistance and exchange information.

Kathy has worked tirelessly the last several years at the Havanese Nationals; running the dog sitting, reserved sitting, and grounds crew as well as putting on a presentation about her trip to Cuba.

Doug served on the Tech committee for the Havanese Club of America, working on maintenance of the HCA website.

 Our Breeding Goals:

  • Proper Outline
The neck is of moderate length, in balance with the height and length of the dog. It carries a slight arch and blends smoothly into the shoulders. The topline is straight but not level, rising slightly from withers to rump.
  • Springy Gait
The characteristic "spring" is caused by the strong rear drive combined with a "flashy" front action effected by the short upper arm.
  • Proper Expression
The expression is soft and intelligent, mischievous rather than cute. The eyes are dark brown, large, almond-shaped, and set rather widely apart.
  • Coat
The coat is double, but without the harsh standoff guard hair and woolly undercoat usually associated with double coats. Rather, it is soft and light in texture throughout, though the outer coat carries slightly more weight. The long hair is abundant and, ideally, wavy.
