Alex and Havanese Champion Dog

The Havanese is truly a wonderful dog breed. A Havanese puppy is smart, affectionate, energetic, beautiful, with a very large dose of 'the clown' thrown in. Our Havanese dogs and puppies live in our home and are first and foremost beloved family pets. The Havanese are quite sturdy for a toy breed, which helps them hold up to the constant attention from the children in the family. Havanese love children and will play endlessly with them. Even when at rest, the alertness of the Havanese expression lets shine the intelligence within.

Our family's relationship with the Havanese dates back many years. Kathy, and her mother Esther, are part of a family that immigrated from Cuba in the 1940's. Esther still has fond memories of her abuelito's family pets in Cuba; a pair of Havanese puppies named Tito and Quetta. Several years ago we decided to revive the family relationship with the Havanese breed after the connection was brought up by Kathy, while documenting the Figueroa family Cuban history. Esther's memories, as well as her years of experience breeding and showing champions dogs, has been instrumental in this rebirth.

El Morro is the monolithic fortress that guards the entrance to Havana Harbor in Cuba. It was completed in 1603 and stands as a stark visual exclamation point on the Havana, Cuba skyline as well as on the memory of the new American immigrants from Havana. It seemed fitting to take this name
